| Electronic books | By now the ITG library has access to several thousands of
electronic books from various publishers and
collections. Many are freely print- and downloadable, others are restricted
to a limited number of simultaneous users or pages per session.

Only a selection of all these E-books is included in the
ITG Library Book and Document Holdings
catalogue, with document type listed as "Book-E".

| Hybrid books | An increasing number of books are now available to ITG in both
digital and printed format. In this case both formats are referred to in the
ITG Library Book and Document Holdings
catalogue, with document type listed as "Book-H".

| Printed books | The ITG library holds over 20,000 printed
books. All books (but also unpublished
documents and selected journal theme issues) are included in the electronic
ITG
Library Book and Document Holdings catalogue.
Most of these books are arranged by subject in open access on the library stacks in the reading room. They can be taken freely for consultation, but should be left on one of the reshelving tables after use. ITG staff can borrow books for a period of up to three weeks. Students and external parties cannot borrow books.

| 'Missing' books | Some of the books listed in the ITG
Library Book and Document Holdings catalogue cannot be found on the library
stacks. These may be held permanently in the research departments or in
the library's archival store rooms. Other books may have been borrowed
temporarily by ITG staff. This can be verified at the library counter.
Journal theme issues included in the catalogue are classified together with
the regular volumes in the serials collection.
Books not available in the ITG library collection can be requested from other libraries [see: interlibrary lending conditions].

| New books | Books most recently received by the ITG library are
listed in the semestrial acquisition lists
and a rolling file with covers and contents pages of the last 8 weeks.

| TropMed lists | Lists with selected books on
tropical medicine and related specialties.
|
| TropVet lists | Lists with selected books on
tropical veterinary science and related specialties.
|
| ITGPress | ITGPress was created in 1997 as the imprint of official
ITG monographs (by now more than 30 items). For more information
click here.

The library does not sell or order any books for private use,
neither for staff, nor for students.
