Books

Electronic books The ITG library has access to a number of electronic books, available on the Internet.
Paper-based books The ITG library possesses about 20,000 books. All books (but also documents and selected journal theme issues) are represented in the electronic ITG Library Book and Document Holdings catalogue.

Most of these books are arranged by subject on the stacks. They can be taken freely from the stacks, but should be left on one of the reshelving tables after use.

ITG staff can borrow books for a maximum period of three weeks, provided these books remain immediately available within the Institute. Students and external parties cannot borrow books.

'Missing' books Some of the books listed in the electronic ITG Library Book and Document Holdings catalogue cannot be found on the book stacks. These may be held permanently in the research departments or in the ITG library's archives store. Journal theme issues are classified among the serials collection.

If this is the case, it is always clearly indicated in the catalogue, at the top of the bibliographic record of the 'missing' book. Other books may have been borrowed temporarily by ITG staff. This can be verified at the counter.

Books not belonging to the ITG library collection can be requested from other libraries [see: interlibrary lending conditions].

New books The books most recently received by the ITG library are listed in the acquisition lists, which are updated more frequently than the electronic catalogue.
Tropmed lists Lists with bibliographic data of selected books on tropical medicine and related specialties.
Tropvet lists Lists with bibliographic data of selected books on tropical veterinary science and related specialties.

The library does not sell or order any books for private use, either for staff, or for students.
