The library of the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) in Antwerp specialises in literature on the following subjects: tropical medicine and international health, epidemiology, infectious and parasitic diseases, microbiology (bacteriology, virology, mycology), parasitology (protozoology, helminthology), medical entomology, tropical nutrition, tropical veterinary sciences.

Its main collection consists of 20,000 books, about 2,500 current journal subscriptions (mostly in electronic format), and about 30,000 bound periodical volumes.

The library collections have a scientific nature. As such they are especially useful for medical doctors, veterinarians, biologists and nurses specialising in tropical biomedical sciences. About 80% of the documentation is in English, 15% in French, and less than 5% in Dutch. Unlike public libraries the ITM library carries no popular literature destined for a wide public.

The library is open to ITM staff, ITM research fellows and ITM students. Other qualified people can also make use of the library facilities, provided they first contact the librarian. Formal membership cards are not required, but non-ITM users are requested to register at the main entrance of the Institute at each visit.
